HAVE X THERE TO BE

"There is a car on the street".

Ex: "I have a new laptop". "She has two children".

There to be", usando assim "There is a car on the street".

O There To Be

Bem semelhante ao Verb To Be, o There To Be funciona da mesma forma, ou seja, tem singular (there is) e plural (there are).

There is a package of beans left.
There are two packages of beans left.

Faz a interrogativa como o verb to be, invertendo-se a posição:
Is there a new employee in the office?
Are there ten boys in the bus?

A negativa, obtemos ao acrescentar not "n't", igualzinho ao que fazemos com o To Be:
There isn't any time to play today.
There aren't leftovers from dinner.
Isn't there a meeting at noon?
Aren't there people waiting for you?

Obs 1: Assim como a maioria dos verbos, o There To Be também é usado na sua forma infinitiva, com modais e condicionais:
There must be a solution.
There shouldn't be such kind of interruption.

Could there be another way?

Obs 1: Usamos o "There To Be" em todos os tempos verbais do inglês. Exemplos:

Simple Present: There is a car on the street.
Simple Past: There was a car on the street.
Simple Future (com will): There will be a car on the street.
Simple Future (com going to): There is going to be a car on the street.
Present Perfect: There has been a car on the street.
Past Perfect: There had been a car on the street.
Future Perfect: There will have been a car on the street.

E nos modais.
There (would/could/should/must...etc) be a car on the street.
There (would/could/should/must...etc) have been a car on the street.

Now we know..................

Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to go fishing.
He called the royal weather forecaster and asked about the upcoming weather conditions.
The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the days ahead.
So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen. On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, "Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area".
The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way."
A short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The king and queen were totally soaked. Their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a drenched condition.
Furious, the king returned to the palace and fired the weatherman at once!
Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of Royal Forecaster.
The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain."
So the king hired the donkey.
And thus began the practice of hiring asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential advisory positions.
